Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh
Welcome to our third monthly newsletter, in the month of Jumada al-Awwal. Our thoughts and prayers are with all our brothers and sisters in Palestine who are facing terrible oppression and atrocities right now. In this newsletter we will share some beautiful examples of supplications for fortitude and strength during tribulations as well as a brief introduction to the dua of the oppressed (Dua Nasiri) and updates on our work in sha Allah.

ANCIENT PROPHETS OF ARABIA
Although this is not a new title, we have highlighted this book this month because it has many great lesson to draw upon from within it. The book moves the reader away from the ‘history’ of the Prophets of God (upon them all be peace) towards the actual lessons that can be taken from them, by catching a glimpse of the divine plan unfolding and ultimately culminating in the final section of the book with the Seerah of Prophet Muhammad ﷺ.
In these very difficult times for the ummah, it is important to look back at the lives of the different prophets (upon them all be peace), especially the seerah of Sayyiduna Muhammad ﷺ to find wisdom, patience solace and hope, we pray that this book will be a means of aiding that in sha Allah.

SUPPLICATION FOR FORTITUDE & STRENGTH DURING TRIBULATIONS
رَبَّنَآ أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا صَبْرًۭا وَتَوَفَّنَا مُسْلِمِينَ
“O Lord, pour down unshakable patience upon us, and take back our souls in utter submission as Muslims.” [Quran, 7:126]
The nature of life is that God in His tremendous wisdom has made it deeply trying. This life is a test, and tests by their nature are trying. We will be shaken, disappointed, distressed, troubled. We may well feel overwhelmed. But in all of that, when we feel weakness, we turn to our caring Lord.
“Pour down upon us great, unshakable fortitude,” – صَبْرًا رَبَّنَا أَفْرِغْ عَلَيْنَا. We ask Allah to shower down that fortitude for us. That fortitude is not only fortitude from within, that we find strength from within. Part of Allah’s Mercy is that He has given us circles of mercy, circles of strength.
Seek out those whom you can consult. Seek out community, because our Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, tells us that “Aloneness is misery and community is mercy.” Sometimes we don’t have that community, so we seek it.
In all of this, when we are tested, we keep our end in mind: “And cause us to die in utter submission to You as Muslims.” Because there’s a point to all the tests, which is how we respond to them and how things end up.
May Allah grant us strength in our tests from Him. Grant us to take the means to find strength. May He cause us to die in utter submission to Him as believers in gratitude, in love, in certitude. Praise be to Allah, Lord of all the worlds.

DUA NASIRI
Dua Nasiri is a famous prayer written by Shaykh Muhammad Fatha ibn Muhammad ibn Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn al-Husayn ibn Nasir ibn ‘Amr ad-Dar’i al-Aghlabi (d. 1085 AH). It is also known as “The Sword of Ibn Nasir” and it was originally used it to seek refuge with Allah, in the time of the French oppression and occupation of Morocco. Shaykh Hamza Yusuf said that “the power of this prayer lies in its simplicity, its purity, and it’s sincere supplication. It is essentially a plea to God that our transgressions be overlooked, that divine mercy be bestowed upon us, that social justice be restored in spite of us, that wrongs be righted, and that righteousness reign once again in our lands, so that the destitute may no longer be in need, the young may be educated, the animals’ purpose fulfilled, rain restored, and bounties poured forth. It is a plea to be freed from the aggression of foreigners in lands over which they have no right – a plea much needed in our modern world, rampant as it is with invasions and territorial occupations. Ultimately, it asks not that our enemies be destroyed, but simply that their plots, and the harm they cause, be halted. Its essence is mercy, which in turn is the essence of the Messenger of God, Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him: “And We have only sent you as a mercy to all the worlds.”
May the recitation of the dua bring relief and victory to all those facing oppression in lands we are aware of and lands we are not in sha Allah.
