Safar (1446) Newsletter

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Welcome to our twelfth newsletter, as we welcome the month of Safar; the second month of the Islamic (hijri) calendar. The word Safar itself is derived from the word ‘sifr’, which means ‘empty’ or ‘void’. During the winter season the pre Islamic Arabs used to leave their homes ‘empty’ as they travelled out of town to seek provisions.

SAFAR – THE MONTH OF THE HIJRAH
Safar is the month in which the Messenger of Allah ﷺ left Makkah al-Mukarramah to make Hijrah to Madinah al-Munawwarah, in order to continue to spread the light of Islam, that would later spread throughout the world.

This month is an opportunity for us to study the noble Seerah of Sayyidina Muhammad ﷺ and reflect upon the blessed teachings within his life ﷺ in order to prepare our hearts to welcome the month of Rabi al-Awwal, the month in which the best of creation ﷺ entered and later departed from this temporary world.

LAST WEDNESDAY OF SAFAR
Some of the gnostics have mentioned that on the last Wednesday of the month of Ṣafar, Allah sends down the trials and tribulations that will occur throughout the year. These trials and tribulations are spread out accordingly and apportioned to specific people. The pious thus recommended making certain supplications and performing certain devotional acts to seek Allah’s mercy and gentleness during this time to avoid being apportioned any trial or tribulation.
