Ramadan Newsletter

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Welcome to our seventh newsletter as we enter into the best of months, to receive the best of guests. The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: ‘there has come to you Ramadan, a blessed month, which Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, has enjoined you to fast. In it the gates of heavens are opened and the gates of Hell are closed, and every devil is chained up. In it Allah has a night which is better than a thousand months; whoever is deprived of its goodness is indeed deprived.”‘ (Sunan an-Nasa’i).

INTENTIONS UPON ENTERING RAMADAN
We should intend to be in the state that Allah and His Messenger ﷺ love for us to be in.
We should seek to attain Allah’s pleasure and to perfect our following of the Messenger of Allah ﷺ so that we attain his companionship.
We should intend that a new door is opened to us in understanding the Qur’an and acting according to it.
We should intend to avoid the inward things that nullify our fast just as we avoid the outward things.
We should truly seek to raise our fast from the fast of the ordinary people to the fast of the pious and we should aspire to attain the fast of the elite even if only for a short time (which is for the heart to be focused on nothing but Allah.

THE GREATEST INTENTION IN RECEIVING RAMADAN
The greatest intention in receiving Ramadan is that we intend to perfect our following of the best person who ever experienced Ramadan, the one by whom Ramadan was ennobled ﷺ. There is no greater or more comprehensive intention than this. We should be keen to implement as much of his Sunnah as we are able. We should be conscious that we are emulating him in both obligatory and extra acts of worship and in customary actions. All types of good and all other intentions are combined in this intention.
(Advice from Habib Umar bin Hafiz may Allah protect him and benefit us by him).

WELCOME POEM FOR THE MONTH OF RAMADAN*
“Peace be upon you, O month of fasting!
Peace be upon you, O month of worship!
Peace be upon you, O month of faith!
Peace be upon you, O month of Qur’an!
Peace be upon you, O month of lights!
Peace be upon you, O month of forgiveness and pardon!
Peace be upon you, O month of heavenly ranks
and of salvation from the levels of hell!
Peace be upon you, O month of the seekers
of forgiveness and worshippers!
Peace be upon you, O month of Gnostics!
Peace be upon you, O month of those who strive in devotion!
Peace be upon you, O month of safety and security!
You are a prison for disobedient sinners,
and for the truly devout you are a place of comfort.”
