Rajab Newsletter

Assalamu alaykum wa rahmatullahi wa barakatuh

Welcome to our fifth monthly newsletter.  As we welcome the month of Rajab we begin to start preparing our hearts, bodies and minds for the blessed month of Ramadan that soon follows afterwards in sha Allah.  Rajab is a sacred month that stands alone from the other identified months, and it is month of returning back to Allah.

When the month entered the Prophet ﷺ would say:

اللَّهُمَّ بَارِكْ لَنَا في رَجَبٍ وَ شَعْبَانَ وَ بَلِّغْنا رَمَضَانَ

“O Allah, bless us in Rajab and Sha`ban and enable us to reach Ramadan!”

Rajab is the key to the months of goodness which follow it. For that reason Imam Abu Bakr al-Warraq said: “In the month of Rajab you sow the seeds, in Shaban you irrigate them and in Ramadan you reap the harvest.” He also said: “Rajab is like a wind, Shaban is like a cloud and Ramadan is like rain.”

It is the month of istighfar and the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said, “If anyone constantly seeks (from Allah), Allah will appoint for him a way out of every distress and a relief from every anxiety, and will provide sustenance for him from where he expects not.”

The best way of preparing the heart to receive divine gifts is purification and repentance. It has been narrated: “Seek much forgiveness from Allah in Rajab because in every hour (of the month) Allah frees people from the Fire.”  Some of the scholars have recommended reading this dua below 70 times immediately after the `Isha Prayer every night in Rajab:

رَبِّ اغْفِرْ لي وارْحَمْنِي وَتُبْ عَلَيَّ

“O Allah forgive me, have mercy upon me, and grant me repentance.”

There is also a very blessed night within this month where Allah gifted the Prophet ﷺ with the greatest of blessing which was the Isra and Mi’raj. It was the greatest night of the Prophet’s ﷺ life, because it was the night on which he journeyed to the heavens and saw his Lord.  The Isrā’ and Mirāj was a great sign and an immense miracle which Allah gave to the master of the people of the heavens and the earth, to demonstrate his superiority over mankind, jinn-kind, angels and the whole of creation. There are great lessons in the events that took place and a means of increasing in belief and certitude.  The scholars say that the best night in relation to the Ummah as a whole was the night on which the Prophet ﷺ born, whereas the best night in relation to the Prophet ﷺ himself was the night of the Isrā’ and Mirāj. (the 27th night of Rajab).

“O Allah, O Light of the heavens and the earth, bestow prayers and peace upon the one You created from Your Light and upon his Family and Companions. Forgive my sins and fill my heart with the light of Your knowledge and his knowledge of You.”
